National Robotics Week, held from April 5–13, 2025, continues to highlight the importance of robotics in modern technology and encourage students to explore careers in robotics and STEM fields. Founded in 2010, the week-long event is celebrated with hundreds of activities across the U.S., aimed at engaging students and raising awareness about robotics.
MassRobotics hosted several workshops this year, offering students hands-on experiences and a closer look at robotics in action. The event attracted students from Massachusetts and beyond, including California and Louisiana. Participants from local schools and communities included Holland High School of Technology, Cristo Rey Boston High School, and Burlington High School had the opportunity to program robots for mini-competitions and explore interactive demos showcasing autonomous vehicles, assistive technologies, and more.
The workshops kicked off with an important question: “What is a robot?” Students enthusiastically explored the foundations of robotics, diving into the nuts and bolts of how robots function. Armed with their newfound knowledge, the participants worked in teams to program and manipulate their own robots. Their ultimate goal? To tackle the “challenge of all challenges” — a task designed to test their skills and problem-solving abilities.

But the fun didn’t stop there! After working hard to program their robots, students were treated to a thrilling round of Robo Soccer — an event that always brings a competitive, high-energy spirit. Watching the robots in action, with students guiding them through strategic plays, was a highlight of the day. It was a celebration of both teamwork and the creativity that robotics fosters.
Dr. Carl Reid, PHD, Science Teacher at Albert Holland School of Technology, reflected on the event: “It was truly inspiring to see their level of interest and engagement — the workshop was fantastic.”
Shereen Tyrrel, career pathways educator at Burlington High School said, “It’s incredible to see our students engage with real-world robotics technology. This hands-on experience not only brings theory to life but also sparks excitement for the future of engineering. We’re so grateful to MassRobotics for making this event possible and for showing our students the endless possibilities in the world of robotics.”
National Robotics Week continues to grow each year, drawing more attention to the potential of robotics in education. As the week wraps up, the excitement doesn’t end. The event serves as a reminder of the growing role of robotics and STEM in shaping the future. Events held during the week not only encourage students to consider careers in these fields but also foster a deeper understanding of technology’s impact on society.
MassRobotics hosts several education-related events throughout the year, including our annual Robot Block Party, open to the public. Learn more about the robot block party here – and stay tuned to upcoming events by following us here or register to receive our biweekly newsletter here.
